FAMILY APARTMENT

Family Apartment

Located on the third floor of a listed building in central Thessaloniki, this apartment was transformed to balance heritage and contemporary living. Original decorative plasterwork, doors, windows, and flooring had already been removed by the previous owner, providing a blank canvas for a renovation tailored to a four-member family.

The design preserves the original layout while introducing subtle interventions that enhance functionality and spatial flow. Historic features, including windows, doors, and plaster details, were carefully revived, creating a dialogue between classic elements and modern comfort.

A volumetric strategy structures the apartment’s multi-functional spaces. The entrance hall accommodates storage and seating, while the living and dining areas are divided by an open black metal shelving unit with a rotating TV base, allowing light and sightlines to flow between the two spaces. The kitchen is arranged into two complementary zones, including a cozy dining corner against a chalkboard wall.

Subtle modifications in the bedrooms enabled the creation of spacious walk-in closets, seamlessly integrated with minimal changes to walls and doors.

The material palette emphasizes warmth and simplicity. White walls form a neutral canvas, complemented by natural oak floors, white Greek marble, and ceramic tiles. Decorative plaster frames, selective painted walls, and brass accents in furniture and fittings introduce subtle luxury. Color is used occasionally, with red-pink and blue-petrol highlights punctuating key furniture, while black details provide visual contrast and definition.

The result is a home that merges heritage and contemporary living—a thoughtful composition of volume, light, and materiality designed for everyday life and family comfort.
