The best use of natural light, the geometry of the plot and the accessibility requirements largely determined the positioning and typology of the building along the north-east and north-west sides of the plot. On the side of the north-west boundary, a mandatory distance was left uncovered, while on the other hand the building extends all the way to the south-west boundary of the plot. The position of the building leaves the maximum available outdoor space to the south for the courting of toddlers. The composition of the building volumes followed a 3x3m grid, creating indoor and outdoor relaxation areas. Organizing student activities by age on different floors allows teachers to manage them better. At the same time, the need to concentrate all major functions of infants on the floor level created the need for a suitable roofed terrace on the first floor. An external metal frame which operates on two levels, protects the terrace but also acts as the supporting structure for the necessary shading system. On the façades overlooking the courtyard, full-length openings provide a seamless transition through interior and outdoor spaces during warm months of the year. Both infant and toddler areas are south-facing and have adequate openings for natural ventilation. Outside of the courtyard, green spaces, create a natural filter against the city pollution while also working as gathering points for parents. On the north-east side of the plot, in front of the main entrance a spacious free area accommodates the large volume of parents and students during peak hours (arrival and departure). The corner location of the plot gave the opportunity for a second access to the yard, directly to the administration area which helps decongest the main entrance traffic while also providing privacy to the staff. On the north side, which is protected from natural elements with minimal openings, have been concentrated all secondary uses such as the staircase, toilets and sleeping rooms. Finally, the entrance to the underground parking space was also placed at the northern end of the plot.
